Bush Discovery

Tuesday 20 April and Wednesday 21 April

Arid Recovery Reserve, via Roxby Downs

The Arid Recovery’s Bush Food Discovery offers a unique opportunity to explore this arid land reserve with a sunset guided tour. The Arid Recovery is the largest fenced reserve in Australia from which all feral cats, foxes and rabbits have been removed. Four locally extinct mammals have been reintroduced and native plants are now thriving. During a leisurely walk you’ll identify bush food plants and how to gather and grow them.

About Arid Recovery Reserve

The Arid Recovery Reserve is 123km2 of fenced land free of all rabbits, cats and foxes. Since the eradication of feral animals, the native vegetation is now thriving.

Four threatened mammal species have been reintroduced to the Reserve to date. Reintroductions began in 1998 with the Greater Stick-nest Rat followed by the Burrowing Bettong in 1999, Greater Bilby in 2000 and the Western Barred Bandicoot in 2001. All re-introductions were initially into the main 14km2 exclosure.
